چکیده

Diamond-based coatings are employed in several technological applications, for their outstanding mechanical properties, biocompatibility, and chemical stability. Of significant relevance is the interface with silicon oxide, where phenomena of adhesion, friction, wear can affect drastically performance coating. Here we monitor such real-time by performing massive ab initio molecular dynamics simulations tribological conditions. We take into account many relevant factors that play a role, i.e. diamond surface orientation reconstruction, silanol density, as well as, type concentration passivating species. The large systems size long time, put our work at frontier what be currently done fully dynamics. results point to full hydrogenation an effective way reduce both friction all surfaces, while graphitization competitive only on (111) surface. Overall expect observations will useful improve applications silica-diamond plays key role. Moreover, demonstrate realistic accurate silico experiments feasible nowadays exploiting HPC resources optimized software, paving more general understanding relationship between chemistry nanoscale-tribology.

Interface models coupling adhesion and friction

Interface models coupling friction and adhesion, where adhesion is regarded as interface damage, are briefly reviewed. The most widely used cohesive zone models are presented and discussed. A general framework for these laws, recently developed by Del Piero and Raous in the form of a unified model, is outlined. As an example, it is here established that the RCCM (Raous-Cangémi-Cocou-Monerie) mo...

Sliding friction at a rubber/brush interface.

We study the friction of a poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) rubber network sliding, at low velocity, on a substrate on which PDMS chains are end-tethered. We thus clearly evidence the contribution to friction of the pullout mechanism of chain ends that penetrate into the network. This interfacial dissipative process is systematically investigated by probing the velocity dependence of the friction ...

Friction in Adhesion

The effect of interfacial friction on adhesion was studied by using a model system, in which a thin strip of silicone elastomer was peeled from a PDMS (poly(dimethylsiloxane)) treated glass slide. The fluorescent particle tracking method revealed that the elastomer stretches and slides on glass well before the crack faces open up. Interfacial energy dissipation due to friction, which is the pro...

An analysis of strain in chip breaking using slip-line field theory with adhesion friction at chip/tool interface

A slip-line field model for orthogonal cutting with step-type chip breaker assuming adhesion friction at chip/tool interface is developed using Kudo’s basic slip-line field. An alternative method is suggested for estimation of breaking strain in the chip. The model proposed predicts that with decrease in distance of chip breaker from the cutting edge of the tool, the breaking strain and shear s...

Trophoblast L-selectin-mediated adhesion at the maternal-fetal interface.

Trophoblast adhesion to the uterine wall is the requisite first step of implantation and, subsequently, placentation. At the maternal-fetal interface, we investigated the expression of selectin adhesion systems that enable leukocyte capture from the bloodstream. On the maternal side, human uterine epithelial cells up-regulated selectin oligosaccharide-based ligands during the window of receptiv...
